Day 5

Hello from Prague again! Today was jam packed. Hopefully I can keep the blog simple and to the point :) We started our morning with a traditional Czech breakfast; meats, cheeses and bread. I am sensing a trend here. The bus picked us up at 8:30 and we were off the Prague Castle. We saw St. Vitus Cathedral and the Golden Lane, both of which lie in the castle complex (which is the largest in Europe!) We slowly made our way down through the lesser quarter, then new town, then across the Charles Bridge into old town, a mere 3 mile walk. Good thing we were told to wear comfortable shoes. After seeing the Astronomical Clock go off, we went to our underground tour. Your heard right! Prague has an underground: a whole city to be precise. Around the 1300s one of the rulers decided that the city needed to be raised so over the next 80 years then filled the streets with straw, muck, brick, and whatever they could find to raise the city 20 feet! It was a little eerie walking through, but interesting nonetheless. After the tour we hopped on a boat for our river lunch cruise. Traditional Czech food was on the menu (cheeses, sausages, potatoes and of course french fries...). The cruise was fun and it was great to see the kids from different groups getting along. The cruise ended and our free time began. Everyone walked back to the town hall and some decided to climb it while others meandered through some souvenir shops. When we reunited, it was back to the Charles Bridge and more souvenir shops. The sky finally began to clear, so we got some great pictures right at the end. Half of our group went to the Black Light Show, a traditional Czech interactive light show, which sounded amazing. We even had a group member as an audience participant! The other half decided to stop for Trdlnik, a Czech dessert. It is dough wrapped around a rod, roasted until it's crispy on the outside and soft on the inside and then rolled in sugar and nuts. Ours had a bonus scoop of ice cream inside. Yummmm! Dinner was similar to last nights, soup, pork and gravy with bread dumplings, and then more ice cream. Sorry parents!! We're back at the hotel now getting ready for an early wake up and travel day to Poland. Until tomorrow...Enjoy the pictures!
